Computerbank and Privacy
Computerbank is committed to protecting the privacy of those individuals and organisations who choose to donate equipment to our program. Laptops and PCs have their storage removed during processing and are thoroughly wiped using tested and proven technologies. Portable devices such as phones and tablets are wiped according the manufacturer’s recommendations. Devices that cannot be safely wiped due to a password lock or lack of a secure, trustworthy tool are carefully destroyed and recycled.
Identifying labels and marks that may show phone numbers or names are removed from donated equipment during our process. Software that has been installed on donated equipment is removed during our processing and the physical media is discarded.
Non-functional storage and devices are physically destroyed by our supervised, trained volunteers to prevent any possibility of information retrieval. The destruction of equipment that has been determined to contain sensitive information is handled personally or overseen by the senior technician.
