User Support Report August 2006
Hi All
In the last two months we have finally changed over to
the new distro, and we have run into a few major and a larger amount of
bugs, luckily mostly caught before to many machines went out to
customers
The issues we had include
- CUPS 1.2 being very broken, we had to revert to CUPS 1.1.23 for the time being, and issues with permissions on /dev/lp0
- Freezing issues in Ktouch
- Media Files not opening properly in mplayer, we changed to vlc for all these files
- Issues with Open Office 2, formatting of older V1 files being the major issue, also templates not being opened properly
- Me forgetting to put some items in menus
- Niggling issues with configuring various applications
- Creation and deploying of new scripts to ease user intergration and aid Work for the Dole participants, including feedback on connections to network, internet via modem, starting sshd, and various work scripts and aliases add to make QA and Setup easier for machine builders, these include an intergrated script for identifing VGA Card, editing xorg.conf and the restarting kdm.
- Identified issue with using pppconfig with Alistairs new connection script, can't use pppconfig or have any entries in ppppconfig.
- Configuration of XMMS to use ALSA as Auto didn't work. Had to also upgrade XMMS to fix some annoying freezing problems.
- Found that we needed to add vfat to /etc/fstab for floppies because the auto setting wasn't recognising fat32 formatted floppy. disks
Also should inform that we have changed our default Epson Printer from the C45 ( Which seems to have been killed by Epson) to the C67 ( Under new system using CUPS 1.1.23 it uses the C64 Printer driver)
And finally we have collected a fair few 2nd hand CDRW, DVD ROM and also 2 x CDRW/DVROM combo drives. List is in front of Book at Reception.
I get the feeling I have forgoten something, if I remember or am reminded I'll append this report
