Internal Systems Report June 2006
This is just a short version of the internal systems report as given in
person at the meeting.
* Recommended getting two spare handsets for the PBX (Commander NT
handsets, should run to < $300 for two)
* Looking in to possibility of using VMWare on reception machine to run
virtual machines of our distro to aid in support
* DNS issues - Have been logging, people hadn't noticed any more issues,
will continue to log
* Changed kernel on toast to a 2.4, seems to be rock solid
* Problems running LDAPify (script to set up machines for our internal
network) on new distro, need time to continue working on, however I
believe I've isolated (at least one of) the problem and am researching
the issue
* Working with Rob to plan a system & storage upgrade for
Omnidimensional (general purpose server), this upgrade is primarily to
increase storage space from ~30GB to ~120GB (of high speed redundant
storage)
- Along with this the backup hardware will be mounted (as it never got
done after the racks were rebuilt)
- Once the backup hardware is working instead of working on my own
backup tool I will configure "amanda" to back up our servers
Lastly here are some additional to-do items that I have:
- PBX: Check button allocation on all phones
- PBX: Fix clock, ensure phone is on UPS
- PBX: Recheck wiring and start on documentation for it (As the system
documentation doesn't match reality)
