Website and Database Report

Computerbank's Plone Website

  1. Plone on our new hosts Webfaction has a problem with memory leakage.  Thanks to Roman Joost there is now a script in place to restart Zope 4 times a day to cope with with problem.  The difference in configuration is Webfaction has a older version of Zope 2.10.5 but a newer version of Plone 3.1.7. compared to Zope 2.10.6, Plone 3.1.5.1 on HSRI've set up a test server to do a test upgrade of our Plone site to see if this fixes the memory leakage.  The test instance has Zope 2.10.8 and Plone 3.2.3.
  2. There's a problem giving some people higher permissions in this Plone.
  3. I've just noticed a word wrap problem with the To Do List Reporting page.

The Glom Database is finished

New name Rhadam Next Generation or RhaNG

Last Saturday Patrick imported all the data from Rhadam. Thanks to all the feedback from the usability testing we are ready to use the new database this Friday. A big thank you to Patrick for agreeing to move from Django to Glom and for all your efforts.

One problem we haven't solved in Glom is it is easy to overwrite data when doing searches. Once a field is entered it is automatically saved, there is no rollback. So we are suggesting to use the read-only login for searches.   The editing login will be just for adding data.  We are keeping multiple copies of the data as a safety measure.

Computerbank's RhaNG USER INTERFACE

Rhang Screen Shot

I took a copy of the database home last Saturday to have a backup offsite.  Already the copy has saved me a trip to Computerbank to look up a phone number.  For Supervisors who would like to have a copy for home you will need to have Ubuntu 9.04 running and then install Glom.  See me for more details.

New Database Offer

It never rains but it pours.  We've had an offer for a Grok/Zope 3 web based front end to our RhaNG/PostgrSQL Database by Zope developer Roman Joost.  Roman would like to build it for his talk at the Open Source Developers Conference in Brisbane in November.  I said we couldn't have our data on show at a conference but I am suggesting it would be fine to copy our user interface.  Does anyone have objections?  It would mean we would have a web front end to the database and a solution to our accidental overwrite problem.  Roman is a member of OzZope and is in Australia for a year from Germany.
