CAI-Vic is still running Volunteer induction days every 2nd and 4th Wednesday
of a month. Our last volunteer day (and TO DO day) will actually be a SHOW ME
HOW day. There will be no volunteer day in January - we will be organising
something else.

CAI-Vic has progressed considerably with network builds. We have now finished
and de;ivered the network for the Autism Congress (5 systems and network
printer) and we are delivering the Menieres Support Group systems on
Wednesday (3 systemsand network printer).

Thanks go to Grant, Jaymz, Cloud, Rob, Penni and me for the wizz-bang Network
rollout at the Melbourne Convention Centre for the World Autism Congress. For
more information check out http://www.autismcongress.com/chat/chat.htm - this
is what the network is primarily being used for.

The Healesville Retirement Village network is still current. A request from a
Retirement Village in Frankston is also outstanding.

Donations

Cai-Vic experienced a decrease in donations during the month of October
Donations were received from RACV/NRMA, Co-Invest, Ausli Dairy Products, and
several individuals.

The Melb Fire Brigade donation looks to be coming through finally. 100 x

Liaison and New Relationships

Penni had a chat with an organisation called Learning For All. These guys are
interested in becoming associated with Comuterbank Victoria with the aim of
sending computers overseas. Learning for all have their own transport
infrastructure and are avid supporters of OSS.

Projects and Happenings

CAI-Vic is trialling "Show me how days" - they have started up within our WFD
program. The first pilot Show Me How (with 3 trainees and 2 WFD folk) went
very well. Some of the recipients who did the session said that they found it
very enjoyable and useful. These sessions are designed to provide a more
streamlined approach to training with the more advanced computer users. In
three hours trainees learn all the basics, a little more on the commandline
than usual, can ask questions (show me how) and get to take their computers
home. Show me How days look set to become a new feature of the CAI-Vic WFD
program. A bigger Show me How day is scheduled for the first Saturday of
December.

We are still facilitating the placement of computers in the South Pacific, we
have just liaised with groups in Tonga and the Solomon Islands and now we are
talking to people in Samoa. The project will soon move into Papua New Guinea,
East Timor and then to Vietnam. Currently our role involves sending software,
documentation and training manuals as well as facilitating links between ANZ
branches to Rotary groups in South Pacific Regions where computers will
become available. Thus far we have seen some 623 computers placed into
schools within the region.

We are still looking for project money to send volunteers across to the
South Pacific. The purpose of this would be to facilitate skills transfer and
to look at networking possibilities.

Some of the projects happening within our Work for the Dole project include:
A recommended printer list update with current prices, a recommended scanners
list, Cheap ISP list, a Computerbank FAQ project, further documentation of
processes, the where is it? project. We are also trying to compile a list of
I/O cards that work with Linux with included driver/module information. A
hardware / electronics repair manual is also being created.

CAI-Vic will be closed over the Holiday period from Saturday Dec 21st. We
will re-open on Wednesday January 8th 2003 at the usual time of 9.30am.

To celebrate the end of the year we will be holding an end of year function
on Friday the 20th of December. More details for this will be announced later.
