Title: Supervisor - Work for the Dole (WFD)

Accountability: The WFD Supervisor is accountable to the Program Manager and the Computerbank committee.

Purpose of Position: The WFD Supervisor will work with the Program Manager to ensure that Computerbank's WFD program contributes to the overall operation of the organisation across a number of key areas.

Details:Computerbank is a volunteer managed not-for-profit organisation that recycles donated IT equipment for redistribution to disadvantaged individuals and community groups. We have been running Work for the Dole projects since 2001.

Computerbank requires someone to work with participants in our Work for the Dole program. The person is required to supervise across our hardware, testing, warehouse, e-waste recycling, software, user support areas, and may sometimes become involved in administration, and the delivery of workshops and training.

The person will have good communication skills, as the role will involve working with others and following/giving directions. The person will be able to work within guidelines as determined by the WFD Program Manager and be able to maintain and facilitate work opportunities for participants. The person will work well under pressure, and should be able to motivate and coordinate others to produce results.

Experience with Linux (Debian preferred) and hardware are both required. Ability to work within, and maintain, a team environment, as well as in one on one situations, is essential. The person will have good time management skills, and will be required to assign and delegate tasks to others and be able to oversee the quality of work done. Previous experience in supervising groups is essential.

The person will be required to follow all occupational health and safety guidelines as well as all policies and processes in place at Computerbank. The person will need to become familiar with WFD policies and procedures. The person will need to help with Computerbank housekeeping/cleaning efforts.

The person will be required to work two days a week for a period of two months and then one day a week for the remaining 3 1/2 months. Work hours are Wednesday 9.30-5pm and Thursday 9.30-5pm. It is possible this will extend to 2 days if funding is increased in May.

Rate of pay is $20 an hour. Pro rata annual leave and sick leave entitlements apply. Superannuation is paid at a rate of 9%.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Good knowledge of of Linux/Debian Software, installing, configuring and troubleshooting.
  • Good knowledge of hardware.
  • Good knowledge of hardware troubleshooting and using Linux tools for testing hardware.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Excellent internet research skills.
  • The ability to follow workplace processes and practises.
  • The ability to work with young people, older people, people with a disability, people who are disadvantaged and people from a non-English speaking background.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work within a team environment.
  • The ability to work unsupervised, to tight deadlines. Proven ability to supervise small groups.
  • The ability to deliver one on one and group training.

Performance Criteria

  • Ability to deliver at least one group workshop, or training session, within a fortnight (no formal qualifications necessary).
  • Ability to produce or inspire others to write or review at least one piece of Computerbank documentation within a fortnight.
